Dear Yoga Student,
I get a lot of questions from people asking
how to do backbend dropbacks where you
go from bridge pose to standing, and then
back down… again and again.
Dropbacks are not really that difficult, but
it can be scary when you’re learning. In this
video (follow link below), I give some basic
instructions on how to practice.
*Watch* the Video Above
Things to remember:
1. Don’t be in a hurry to get to the floor
2. Lower body strong, upper body soft
3. Hang as long as you can
4. If the floor is too far away, drop back
to the wall (or a bed) at first to practice
Ok, that’s all for now! Don’t forget to practice
the back-opening series of poses in the YOGABODY
Handbook as preparation for deeper backbends
like this.
Stay bendy,
Lucas

p.s. Note from a student:
“I tried your YOGABODY Stretch for 3 weeks and gradually
feel the effects – recovery time from almost 1 week to 2
days, and some asanas like headstand I pick up more easily
and stable than before.” (Whimy, Hong Kong)

Love the video, have not long received the yogabody capsules so will let you know,
so far no allergic reaction though and that was my main concern with some of the ingredients. Being a hayfever/sinus sufferer the wheatgrass can be a problem so will
persevere and keep checking the stretching.

I am 57. I took many years of yoga in the 70′s and 80′s. But have been on about a 15yr hiatis. I have your yoga body and have been praticing yoga again for a little over a month. I cannot lift my self into a bridge position. My arms just won’t lift me up!. I only weigh at my most 100 lbs. and I am quite strong. What can I do? Thank you for your help. Is it possible to get BACK into shape at my age? Hopefully yours, Annette

I forgot to mention, I think you’re aw esome! I looked on-line for a very long time about yoga help (I can’t afford classes) and I picked you because I loved my yoga teacher in the 70′s. He had us chop the greens that hang off the ends of vegetables and put them in a blender and drink it every day. To say the least your yogabody is so much easier to swallow:-) and he always said “you are as young as your spine” and you said something very similar. Thank you, Annette P.S. Yoga and nutrition ideas have come a long way. Pretty much the same idea but I only took Hatha Yoga. I don’t even hear of that anymore, and way back when, I thought that’s all there was. I really have some catching up to do!

Annette – thanks for your kind words! For full wheel/bridge pose, repetition and slow, longer holds are very helpful. I usually recommend 3-5 sets of 10 breaths each to start and slowly work up and up until you’re holding for 30 breaths. Needs to be relaxed though which is the challenge… using as little energy as possible.
Hope that helps!

Dang! I can’t bend that far, ouch!
Haha, he looks like some kind of weird spider/insect thing when he’s bent over and rocking..lmao!

Ohh! You got a very flexible body man, I envy you. I really think that only women would do such bending thing. Great demonstration, nothing is impossible!

You are amazing Lucas. I’ve been practicing to do the dropbacks. I still have the fear of falling flat to the floor. Your demos inspires me, I thought it would be impossible to do it perfectly but you did it.
at 10:15 am - 12th November 2010 Permalink
I guess, this will take me years to accomplish!

Very good demonstration!
Perfect work! I enjoyed very much.
Thank you!
Please, keeping doing the same on other difficult postures.
